Campaign Conduct in Our Community - Survey #22

From 2026-09-01 to 2026-10-07

Verified voters: 38 (Total: 46)

My name is Long Jiao. I'm a Cupertino resident and a member of the CUSD Board of Education, and I want to hear from across our whole district — Cupertino, Sunnyvale, San Jose, Santa Clara, Los Altos, and the unincorporated areas in between. This survey is conducted solely by me and does not represent the official position of the CUSD Board. In the interest of full transparency, I've endorsed candidates in this year's Cupertino City Council races — so I want to be clear this survey is about the conduct of our local elections, not about advantaging any candidate. Sign tampering is wrong whoever it happens to, and in whatever city it happens.

Every election season, in every one of our cities, residents report campaign signs being removed, damaged, or placed without permission. This short, candidate-neutral survey asks about your experience and what you think should be done — wherever you live. It takes about two minutes.

A note for neighbors outside Cupertino: a couple of questions mention Cupertino's specific sign rules as an example. If you live in another city the exact ordinance differs, but the questions about what you've seen and what you believe apply to your town just as much — answer with your own community in mind.

And how it works: every question lets you pick an answer and add your own comment — the comment box is always there. If the options don't fit, tell me in your own words.

Summary

Q1: A sign removed or stolen from a front yard · A sign damaged or defaced · A sign placed in a front yard without the resident's permission · A sign placed on the park strip without the adjacent resident's permission · A sign put back after the resident had removed it — Nothing is being done to stop this! We have laws but they seem to be meaningless.
Q2: Yes, I knew — In Cupertino, many of the people being affected are afraid to report this.
Q3: Yes, I knew
Q4: File a complaint with the city, and cover the sign in the meantime — so it isn't on display in front of my home, without my consent, while the case is worked — I would try one time to have the city handle it but I don’t have much hope.
Q6: Stop it and run a clean campaign — even if it costs them votes — If a candidate knowingly allows this it is disrespecting residents. How will they treat these residents if they are elected?
Q7: Very important

Q10: School closures, teacher salaries to allow teachers to live in Cupertino, or affordable housing for teachers. Some schools need to be closed due to lower attendance. These are hard issues that affect students, not signs on lawns.
